While many marketers use window decals for their winter promotions, floor graphic films are often not incorporated into campaigns. However, the floor is one of the best areas to place advertising in stores - after all, everybody tends to glance to the floor when trying to make their way through the frenzied Christmas shopping crowd.
Tips for working with floor graphic films
Selecting the right adhesive strength
For difficult surfaces such as asphalt, concrete, wood, carpet or paving stones, a high-tack solution is best because it ensures optimum adhesion. A high-tack film is also the better choice when working with surfaces that have wide joints. For "normal" floors, floor films or floor graphics compounds with standard adhesives are good options. The easiest way for a perfect application is to select films that guarantee a bubble-free application.
Slip Resistance
In public areas, a certified clip resistance is absolutely necessary. When choosing a material, it is paramount that the film's slip resistance properties have been properly tested by a lab an official certificate has been issued. In order to achieve the specified slip resistance, some floor graphic films must additionally be laminated with a protective film after printing. However, you can save yourself the cost and time if you choose films that remain non-slip certified after printing - even without a protective laminate
Fire Protection Certification
In addition to ant-slip properties, films used for floor advertising must also have fire protection certification (e.g. European standard EN 13501-1).
Durability
When choosing floor graphic films you should check whether they are suitable for short or long term promotions. For long-term applications, films with protective laminates are more suitable as they protect the inks from abrasion. Directly printable non-slip films are a good solution from a time frame of several weeks.

It might seem early to some, but most retail and brand marketers are already busy working on the upcoming Christmas advertising campaigns. That's not surprising because this festive season gives a great opportunity to boost your sales. It's not only the time to eat, drink and share gifts but of course a time of top customer spending - at least if you come up with a smart marketing campaign.
Applying stickers in extreme outdoor conditions
For most retailers and brands, self-adhesive decals are a big part of their Christmas marketing campaign. After all, it is a fast and easy way to get your message out. Although the holiday season is a great time of year to advertise, you also have to deal with an unavoidable factor: the weather. It is often forgotten that when applying stickers, the temperature is essential for good adhesion. This applies to the outdoor temperature as well as the temperature of the substrate. Temperatures that are too low can negatively affect adhesion. This could turn into a problem when applying your stickers on the outside of shop windows during winter
Tips for outdoor application:
- Dry method at a minimum of 5 degrees centigrade (10 degrees centigrade would be better) is essential.
- In extremely cold temperatures, it is best to apply the decals in the afternoon, as it is warmer.
- Make sure that the surface is properly cleaned and free of grease and dust.
- The substrate should be completely dry and free of condensation, otherwise, the moisture might freeze.
- For 12-24 hours after application, it is important that the temperature does not fall below 5 degrees centigrade. During that time frame, it is also paramount for the decals not to come in contact with rain.
The best method: Applying window graphics from inside
Since many factors have to be considered when applying the window graphics from the outside, it is best to apply the graphics from the inside. Not only does this protect the ads from vandalism, it also protects them from weather exposure. Additionally, the application is a whole lot easier, since the window's temperature does not fall too low on the inside. This makes the application process a lot less complicated. In order for the ads to be seen from the outside, mirror image printing should be used. For this type of application, easy dot and window grip solutions from Neschen are excellent choices

Since the pressure to keep up with online shopping is steadily increasing for traditional stores, creating a memorable shopping experience has become an essential setup in regaining customers.
From an appealing presentation of the goods to stunning store interiors – the shopping experience is designed down to the smallest detail. For shop fitting, digitally printable wallpapers are an ideal medium to create sophisticated store designs. Whether opting for geometric designs, advertising messages or landscape photography, almost any design can be applied to the wallpaper. This presents an enormous potential for interior designers. Depending on the product, the wallpapers feature textures just like regular wallpapers do, ranging from woodchip to linen. In terms of the compatible printing technologies, there are printable wallpapers for nearly all solutions, ranging from products for UV-curing inks to latex and solvent inks. Digitally printable wallpapers not only score with their versatility: Many products are ideal for public areas because they are washable, abrasion-resistant and durable. This makes them ideal for high-traffic areas such as shopping malls.
Security guidelines in public areas must be met
Since certain guidelines and codes must be met for public spaces, it is vital that the wallpapers have a fire classification report (in Europe according to EN 13501-1).
Sensational promotion or long-lasting wall design
Whether long-term wall design or short-term promotion – there are suitable products for any purpose. The difference: high-tack wallpapers offer powerful adhesive formulas, suited for long-term adhesion. They can also be applied to difficult substrates – like plywood, chipboard and concrete. For short to medium-term campaigns at the point of sale, there are wallpapers that can quickly be removed without any effort, leaving no residue at all. They are an ideal solution for seasonal sales or short-term discount campaigns.
Eco-friendliness – an increasingly important factor
Just as in many other sectors, the interior design market is moving more and more towards green products. In regards to printable wallpapers, this means focussing increasingly on PVC-free solutions. For Neschen, this meant developing the “Green Wall” range of wallpapers, which are not only PVC- but solvent-free.

From 14 to 17 May 2019 in Munich, Sihl is presenting innovative products in the fields of advertising, POS and dye sublimation which are suitable for numerous applications.
SIHL materials for signage and signposts
Self-adhesive films enable a variety of advertising applications in addition to the production of signage and signposts. This is ensured by base materials and adhesives which have been optimised for the application and which guarantee particularly easy application and removal of signs for seasonal shop window campaigns or shop fittings.
For this, SIHL is presenting the two permanently adhesive vinyl films for waterbased inks SA Vinyl Plus 110 P-CA FR AQ matt 3635 and SA Vinyl Plus 110 P-CA FR AQ glossy 3585 for high quality labels and advertising materials in photographic quality which, as of today, are B1-certified. The two films can be bonded to flat and smooth surfaces and are thus ideally suited for the production of indoor signs and advertising media. These matt or glossy finish films are optimised for waterbased printing. Thanks to its water-resistant coating, it is also suitable for short-term outdoor applications when printed with pigment inks.
In addition to these products, Sihl will also be focusing on its range of environmentally friendly, wet-strength papers for outdoor use at FESPA. One focus will be on the presentation of sustainable materials such as the TriSolv billboard papers for poster and advertising applications, which is FSC®-certified (Forest Stewardship Council).
SIHL materials for lightboxes and window advertising
Brilliant colours, excellent contrast and a high radiance are the basis for eye-catching lightbox and shop window advertising that attract everyone’s attention.
Visitors can expect a new backlit material that offers excellent contrast and a high radiance for their designs. The Backlit Film Plus 220 Satin (3560) is very well suited for the creation of lightbox advertising with solvent, latex and UV ink systems. This media can be applied both indoor or outdoor, as well as in humid conditions.
The new backlit film has numerous advantages. It allows use with both reflected and transmitted light sources, has a high contrast and produces rich black densities, as well as quick drying and having high ink absorption capacity. Its thickness of 220 μm permits installation in lightboxes without kinks and its good scratch resistance ensures robust printed images.
SIHL materials for trade fairs, POS and events
Modern trade fair stands, events and sales rooms thrive on the fact that effective advertising elements such as a point of sale or a trade fair display with vibrant and brilliant colours are effective in seconds. For this, Sihl offers an extensive range of exclusive print media with a fine finish.
Sihl is presenting another new film in its roll-up range. The Roll-Up Film Plus 210 SB matt AQ (3597) was designed for the production of roll-up and display graphics with water-based and latex printers. The matt coating ensures excellent scratch resistance, as well as high print quality and brilliant colour reproduction. This polypropylene/polyester composite is tear resistant guaranteeing problem-free processing and thanks to the silverback offers high opacity, the thickness allows good flatness and it is suitable for all mid-term applications.
SIHL 3D sublimation films for furniture, interior design, gadgets and advertising media
In Munich, Sihl will present two prototypes of dye sublimation film for dye sublimation printing, that can then be transferred either to 3D furniture pieces for unique designs or to 3D objects for the gift sector, such as mobile phones.
The two SubliColor Gadget and SubliColor Object films meet the most important criteria and requirements, such as high transfer rates, quick drying and flexible softening of the material, which enables the film to be applied perfectly to all corners of 3D objects.
In hall A5, on stand J15 Sihl looks forward to all of its visitors!

The FineArt industry will see a new paper that elevates FineArt printing to a new level. As the inventor and pioneer of genuine artist papers for inkjet printing, Hahnemühle fulfils the wish of many photographers to include a FineArt paper made of 100% cotton in the Digital FineArt Collection – this time with a metallic effect. The evenly shimmering metallic effect corresponds perfectly to the haptic of a real artists’ paper from the benchmarking Photo Rag®-family and makes Photo Rag® Metallic unique on the market.
The premium inkjet coating ensures bright colours, deep blacks and perfect colour and detail reproduction. The sophisticated silver metallic effect underscores the image and makes motifs with metallic elements, reflections, ice and glass, architecture and landscape shots, as well as black and white photographs with high-contrast tones, shine. Depending on the incidence of light, the metallic effect glimmers stronger and gives the printed motifs a unique liveliness.
Photographer Kitfox Valentín is delighted by the new Photo Rag® Metallic: “In my pictures, I dive deep into the world of finest details to accentuate and illuminate my compositions. With my picture of the series ‘Beatific / Caustic’, I attach great importance to the fact that the print exudes the iridescent mica or the rich shine of the composition. Photo Rag® Metallic radiates the bold, shimmering quality brilliantly. By pairing ‘Beatific / Caustic’ with the new Photo Rag® Metallic Paper, I was able to deliver high-quality FineArt prints to the world without compromising the image.”
The 340 gsm paper is made of 100% cotton and has no optical brighteners. Of course, Photo Rag® Metallic, like all Hahnemühle papers in the Digital FineArt Collection, is free of acid and lignin and meets the highest requirements for aging resistance. With different roll and sheet sizes, photographers can choose from a wide range of options. Users get the best printing results with our Hahnemühle ICC profiles. The ICC profiles are available for download on our website.

About Hahnemühle
There are very few companies worldwide that can be proud of such a long company history like Hahnemühle’s. Founded back in 1584 as a paper mill in South Lower Saxony’s Solling uplands, Hahnemühle developed – strictly according to the spirit of its founding fathers – into a customer-oriented and innovative manufacturing facility.
It goes without saying that the products and manufacturing methods have changed to a certain extent since 1584. In the beginning, the product range solely comprised mould-made writing paper but later, artist papers and the Hahnemühle invented fine-art inkjet papers for digital print were added to the range. Furthermore, Hahnemühle papers have been used for decades in industrial production or manufacturing processes as well as in research laboratories. At Hahnemühle, gripping pictures are always in demand. And even more so when it comes to the design for product packaging. After all, the customer should understand at first glance what it’s all about: the perfect reproduction of great pictures. Seeking subjects for the ‘Hahnemühle Photo’ line, gave young photographers the opportunity to present their works. “With ‘EVA//Schule für Fotografie//Hamburg‘ we have found the perfect partner to collaborate with for our idea,” stated Hahnemühle product manager Andrea Sippel, and added: “With their fresh presence, the works visualise the paper’s credo.”
Hahnemühle Photo was conceived as an everyday print product for a demanding clientele, that expects high quality at reasonable prices for their daily work. The picture series comprises a total of 10 works provided by eight students. Three of the pictures can be seen on the product boxes in different sizes. Nine of the works are used for a sample book that demonstrate all the different types of paper within the line. The types differ by their surface structure and the level of gloss. No matter if black and white or coloured, matt or gloss: every individual work has got its special effect and demonstrates the impressive reproduction performance of the papers. “Due to the consistently positive experiences, we regard this collaboration as the start of many more partnerships with colleges and young artists,” explained Sippel who is already looking forward to future projects.
Hahnemühle Photo is a basic assortment of universally usable inkjet papers that are ideal for daily printing. This easy to use paper range display a very good quality and provide an attractive price point, making them an excellent choice for standard photos, poster prints and photo books. Cellulose based natural papers or resin coated substrate materials, combined with an optimised inkjet coating for photo application, ensure the best results for everyday printing.
