So many different interiors, so many different surfaces. As an interior decorator, shopfitter or sign maker, you regularly face challenges when it comes to walls. Not every surface needs the same adhesion performance. In some cases, you have to deal with several types of surfaces within a single project – for example for the design of numerous shops of a retail chain. In this case, the application surfaces of the various shop interiors can vary widely and it may not always be possible to choose one and the same film. Not all films are suited for materials like structured walls (e.g. with a spack-spraying structure), concrete, chipboard or painted walls.
When you have to deal with various substrates in single a project, it is always wise to test a small piece of film for its adhesive strength on the designated surface. If you want more certainty regarding the adhesion of your film, choose a film with a high-tack adhesion, such as solvoprint® performance wall-grip. This film features a high-tack adhesive that is suitable for various challenging surfaces, such as rough interior walls, smooth and dry concrete, chipboard, polypropylene or other difficult surfaces
High-tack adhesive suitable for difficult surfaces
The StickerCompany in Eindhoven, in the Netherlands, regularly faces projects with challenging surfaces. Customers often ask whether their wall finish is suitable for applying stickers. This was also the case with a client, who wanted to add new signage to their business interior. The building featured many different surfaces, varying from varnished wood to structured walls with a spack-spraying finish. In order to get a clear picture of the situation, the StickerCompany asked for photos to be sent.
This allowed Tinus Kouwenberg, owner of the company, to make a decision as to which film would be suitable. Because of their good experience with solvoprint® performance wall-grip, this choice was easily made. The material has a high-tack adhesive that offers an ideal grip on difficult to adhere to substrates, such as concrete, chipboard or structured walls.
The design of the decals consists of fine details and line work, which was no problem for this film either. After the design was printed with a Canon Colorado, the signage was effortlessly cut into shape and then applied to various places in the building. Simply applying the film with the pressure of a squeegee sufficed to get a good adhesion.

Whether in private homes or large scale commercial projects, personalized interior design has never been in such high demand as it is today. For interior designers, shopfitters and booth builders, printable wall coverings offer a cost-efficient way of giving interiors that eye-catching finish.
Sensational promotion or long-lasting wall design
When selecting the medium, it is vital to plan ahead. Whether long-term wall design in hotels and other interiors or short-term promotion at the point of sale – there are suitable wall coverings for any purpose. High-tack wallpapers offer powerful adhesive formulas, ideal for semi-permanent or permanent installations. For short- to medium-term campaigns, for example, at the point of sale, there are products that can be quickly removed without leaving any residue.
The look of real wallpaper paired with the creative freedom of graphics films
Whether opting for geometric designs, advertising messages or landscape photography, almost any design can be applied to printable wallpaper. This presents an enormous potential for interior designers. Depending on the product, the wallpapers feature textures just like regular wallpapers do, ranging from woodchip to linen. In terms of the compatible printing technologies, Neschen offers printable wallpapers for nearly all inks, ranging from UV-curing inks to latex and solvent inks. In the shopfitting industry, digitally printable wall coverings not only score with their versatility: Many wall coverings are ideal for public areas because they are washable, abrasion-resistant and durable. This makes them ideal for high-traffic areas such as shopping malls.
Discover how printable wall coverings transform interiors
Porto’s newest luxury hotel gives its guests a glimpse into a rich history: The Hotel Pestana Porto – A Brasileira is built in the famous A Brasileira Café, the first to serve coffee in a cup in the early 20th century. Renowned for the slogan „The best coffee comes from A Brasileira“, it has a special past. The 5-star hotel still features the buildings’ original architectural elements and boasts 115 years of history. The rooms‘ themes are all tied to the spices and products imported during the Portuguese maritime expansion during the 15th and 16th centuries. Digitally printable wall coverings are a perfect medium for these types of applications: The wall designs fully transform the look and feel of hotel rooms, restaurants, and retail areas while being cost-efficient. Since interior designers and shopfitters are free in selecting any design, printable wall coverings are more and more appreciated as a sophisticated design element for interiors.
On the walls of the hotel’s 89 rooms, Neschen’s wallpaper performance linen pays tribute to the interesting history of the hotel.
A portfolio made for the designer of today
Just as in many other sectors, the interior design market is both increasing in scope and specialism which in turn increases the demands and requirements of printable wallpaper. Neschen have diversified their portfolio to include a range of textured and environmentally friendly printable wallpapers that are not only PVC but are solvent free. In many industries, products and manufacturing processes that are more sustainable is becoming more and more important. In the field of self-adhesive media, the movement towards eco-friendliness represents a major challenge. The problem is obvious: Plastic and therefore self-adhesive films are generally challenging in regards to their eco-friendliness. However, it is difficult to avoid them completely in everyday life. For example in book protection films, PVC (polyvinyl chloride) has many advantages towards other materials and is easy to work with. Nevertheless, Neschen has developed many product alternatives on the basis of PP (polypropylene) instead of PVC over the years. This way, customers can choose a suitable product depending on each individual application. Additionally, Neschen works with solvent-free acrylate adhesives and ensures that all raw materials are free of harmful additives.
But what exactly is the difference between PVC and PP?
After PE (polyethylene) and PP, PVC is the third most important polymer for plastics. PVC is divided into hard and soft PVC. Many users prefer PVC films because they are softer and more elastic and therefore easier to process. PP is recognised as an eco-friendlier alternative because it is a simply structured synthetic material and also a “by-product” of the petrol industry. This resource is put to good use in the form of protecting or mounting films.
Over the years, Neschen has developed alternatives on the basis of PP for virtually every application (digital print, protection and mounting films). PP films are a little more difficult to work with because they are less flexible. Cutting through the material is also a little more difficult than cutting through the PVC version.
Nevertheless, a lot speaks for using PP films as an alternative to PVC:
- non-toxic combustion
- byproduct of the petrol industry
- does not contaminate ground water
- virtually shrink-proof
- temperature resistant up to +100°C (212°F)

At this years FESPA, Neschen Coating GmBH is presenting a creative bike cafe. In addition to its top sellers, the company is presenting product innovations such as a new hybrid mounting film for difficult substrates, currently the only solution of this kind on the market
Bike cafes are conquering cities as a popular cycling destination. In addition to instant service and a cozy backdrop for a pit stop, the popular cafes offer a shop area with bicycle accessories and spare parts. For FESPA 2020 in Madrid, Neschen Coating GmbH is following this trend and presents an exhibition booth in the style of a bike café with an industrial design theme. FESPA Global Print Expo is expected to attract over 18,000 industry professionals in four days—from the 24th to the 27th of March 2020. It is Europe’s largest international trade exhibition for the digital printing industry.
Besides just coffee, there is much else to discover in Neschen’s bicycle cafe. The booth features minimalistic industrial design elements made of brick, concrete, wood, iron and corrugated sheet metal and—just like an authentic bike café—with a sitting area and workshop area. The concept is ideal for presenting Neschen‘s products, featuring bikes elaborately designed with Neschen media, photo art with gudy® mounting films and industrial design walls with products of the wallcovering range. “We would like to present to our visitors the diverse application possibilities of our products in a realistic environment, this year, in form of a bike cafe,” says Kai Tittgemeyer, CEO of Neschen Coating GmbH.
With new hybrid adhesive film even demanding substrates can be equipped with self-adhesive properties
In addition to already established products, Neschen is presenting new product developments such as gudy® 806 hybrid. The film is a unique solution, created to equip challenging substrates with self-adhesive properties, guaranteeing a long-term and reliable bond.
The new gudy® hybrid film is the only solution of this kind on the market: Even challenging materials can now be equipped with self-adhesive properties.
This mounting film is ideal for demanding or heavy materials such as textiles, tarpaulins or foam boards. In the cafés workshop area, the Bueckeburg-based company presents one of its high-performance laminators: The Neschen ColdLam 1650. It was designed for mounting and laminating prints up to 1650 mm wide and is suitable for processing a wide range of materials.
More than just a trend – Neschen extends sustainable product portfolio
Sustainability is more than just a trend for Neschen. The manufacturer already offers green alternatives in all portfolio areas. The continuously expanded Green Wall range of printable wallpapers and products such as UVprint PP easy dot® transparent are just two examples of more sustainable solutions. This portfolio will be continuously expanded in the future.

Integrated workflows with print and cut solutions are enabling businesses to shorten lead times and offer a wider range of applications than ever before. Therefore, Summa is proud to announce that HP has validated Summa’s F Series flatbed cutters for the HP Latex R Printer Series. The printers and cutters complement each other perfectly, bringing customer workflows to the next level.
While obtaining stunning colours on rigid, or even flexible materials with the HP Latex R Printer Series, the finishing with Summa’s F Series precision cutters delivers the same level of quality. This enables businesses to combine the choice of material, design, colour results and cutting quality into excellent end products. HP states that the aim of the HP and Summa Partnership is to enhance the value proposition and competitive advantage of HP Latex and Summa with solutions for the E2E printing environment beyond the printer.
Summa’s Executive Director, Wim Maes: “This year, Summa accomplished its goal to improve the synergy with the large format digital printer market, by launching two large-format flatbeds matching the 3.2 m (10’ 5”) working width of printers perfectly. In combination with Summa’s GoProduce software, the F Series ensures the highest versatility to process all kinds of material and offer numerous high-end solutions to the sign making, textile, and digital print industries. Even more so, with the HP Partnership and validation for the F Series with the HP Latex R Printer Series, this pursuit of excellent synergy between printers and cutters has reached new heights.”
Meet short deadlines
Both the printer and the cutter are made to deliver the highest quality with optimum lead times. But in order to make a significant difference in the time needed to process the order, it is indispensable for both operations to be perfectly coordinated. This is exactly why collaborations, such as this print and cut solution, are so powerful to optimise workflows, save valuable time and deliver products that meet the needs of the customer in time.
Workflow versatility to the next level
A well-integrated workflow helps businesses to offer a wider range of applications. Since the materials printed on the HP Latex R Printer Series can be processed flawlessly on the Summa F Series, no application will be too bold a challenge to create. Always with the highest quality level in mind.
Find practical similarities such as the dimensions of rigid and flexible materials that fit on the flatbed cutters, as well as the types of material that the flatbed system can easily handle. This is possible thanks to high-quality modules that can house multiple tools to efficiently apply multiple cutting techniques in one single job. For example, paper-thin, thick materials, rigid and flexible materials have no secrets for Summa's flatbed cutters. With which, in turn, all kinds of applications are made such as stickers, posters, beach flags and advertising displays.
